U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR · PUBLIC-SECTOR DIGITAL EXPERIENCE
Job Corps — National Digital Experience
Creating a national digital experience for Job Corps and a scalable system for its network of local centers.
The Department of Labor’s Job Corps project involved conceptualizing, designing and developing the nationally viewed Job Corps web experience along with approximately 150 associated center sites across the country.
The challenge was to create something approachable and motivating for young adults while still supporting the needs of parents, community members, employers and other stakeholders seeking information about the program.

A NATIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH LOCAL REACH
One brand. Many centers. Different audiences.
The experience needed to communicate opportunity to young people exploring alternatives to traditional college while also making practical program information accessible to the broader community.
The work included online branding, user research, usability testing, quality assurance and responsive cross-browser testing across the national site and its network of center properties.
BUILDING FOR SCALE
A custom Drupal CMS supported the national experience and the distributed center-site model.
The system needed to create consistency across Job Corps while allowing a large network of local properties to operate within the same overall digital framework.
STUDENT SURVEY EXPERIENCE
Making feedback easier to complete on mobile.
The project scope also included modernizing existing student assessments into a mobile-optimized survey experience supported by a custom backend CMS.
The survey work focused on reducing the effort required to respond on phones and tablets through:
- Larger touch targets
- More readable text
- Mobile-friendly layouts
- Faster emotional-response capture
- Reduced friction from start to completion
The goal was not simply to put an existing survey on a smaller screen. It was to make participation feel easier and less intrusive so students were more likely to complete it.
